About Dr Marek Misiewicz
Associate Veterinary Surgeon BSc BVMS
Marek was born in the UK, moving to Perth when he was 14. He completed his veterinary studies from Murdoch University in 2014 receiving awards in clinical pathology and animal welfare. He started his career in rural New Zealand working as mixed practice veterinarian for 3 years where he worked primarily as a dairy cattle vet, mostly treating cats and dogs during weekend on-call work. After 3 years he decided the peace and quiet of rural living wasn’t for him and decided to move to the hustle and bustle of London. While in the UK, he worked initially in the veterinary clinic for a cat rescue charity where he fell in love with the intricacies of feline medicine and developed clinical skills seeing a wide variety of different medical and emergency conditions. In this time, he also developed a passion for veterinary dentistry due to the huge impact dental health has on the welfare of cats. There’s nothing better than seeing a patient eat happily after a dental procedure!
He moved back to Perth in 2021 following the COVID 19 lockdowns and has since been working in small animal general practice, before joining the Perth Cat Hospital team in 2023. He has completed continuing education courses in feline medicine, abdominal ultrasound, and multiple courses in dentistry as well as many webinars and journal clubs. He is now studying for Membership of the Australia and New Zealand Veterinary College in Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery. He is a member of the International Society of Feline Medicine and the Foundation of Veterinary Dentistry as well as the Australian Veterinary Association’s dentistry and animal welfare and ethics special interest groups.
Marek’s primary interest is in veterinary dentistry, where he is most interested in developing his skills to attempt to save cat’s teeth where possible, manage oral tumours and treat trauma cases that effect the mouth. Most importantly, he wants to develop treatment plans that provide his patients with pain free mouths. He also enjoys consulting and managing chronic medical cases which gives him a chance to share his knowledge with pet owners, allowing them to better understand their pets and then find the best option for each patient.
He is cat dad to Beanie and Yuna, two very spoiled middle aged rescue Burmese who ensure he gets up bright an early for breakfast every morning. Outside of work he spends his time campaigning for various social causes including climate action, demilitarization, LGBTQIA+ rights, and first nation’s sovereignty. He also enjoys reading, hiking, and gardening when he can find the time.
